| A Month Later, Cowboys Still the Same Team | ||||

For those that jumped on the ship expecting the Cowboys to finish this season 13-3, yesterday's defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers came as a shock. The only problem is, this is still the same team as the one that lost to the Denver Broncos about a month ago. That's right, the team still has an inconsistent (and now banged up) offensive line, an erratic running game that comes and goes in the blink of an eye, and a wide receiving corps that lacks a consistent threat without Terrell Owens in the lineup. Say what you want about Miles Austin, but now that defenses have had time to adjust, Austin is virtually a non-factor. He's still got a long way to go before the absurd comparisons to Terrell Owens become true. Jason Witten is still mostly ineffective while the guy expected to have a breakout year, Martellus Bennett, has disappointed since the end of preseason play. All this doesn't even mention one Roy E. Williams, who after a month of basically pointing fingers and proclaiming he wasn't being "thrown to properly", showed up at Lambeau Field and fumbled the ball away after a 41 yard catch and run and blatantly dropped another big catch in the 2nd half. After the drop, Williams looked at Tony Romo with a disgusted face, pointed both fingers up as if to indicate the pass (which hit him square in the palms) was too high, and shrugged as if to deflect the blame. Williams is still disappointed after more than a year in Dallas, and it's starting to look like maybe the stories of his laziness and lack of desire may be more than true. I'll go as far as to say I know what Romo doesn't like throwing the ball to Williams: the guy screws up nearly every play in which he touches the ball. Yes, this is the same team that limped away from a victory against Kansas City, and it will be the same team that shows up on the field to face the Redskins next week. The Cowboys need to quit looking forward to piling up a good record and figure out a way to put in an offensive gameplan that involves more than predictable screen passes and a terrible misuse of the offensive weapons that are there, such as Felix Jones and Jason Witten. If not, it could be another lonely postseason for Cowboy fans.
